artbygenève 2010: Une première prometteuse à Palexpo

Outre une forte proportion des quelque 100'000 visiteurs du Salon international du livre et de la presse, artbygenève, a bénéficié de la visites de nombreux collectionneurs et acteurs du domaine.

Le niveau des œuvres présentées grâce à la sélection imposée par le Comité, l’ouverture à un large secteur consacré à la photographie ou encore l’aménagement original et convivial de l’exposition ont certainement contribué à cet engouement.

La majorité de la cinquantaine d’exposants venus non seulement de Suisse, mais aussi d’Autriche, de Belgique, Corée, France, Japon, Russie et Ukraine, s’est déclarée satisfaite des contacts ainsi que des ventes réalisés.

Une belle récompense pour le Comité qui travaille sur ce renouveau depuis deux ans et ne compte pas en rester là. Des projets prometteurs sont déjà à l’étude pour 2011.

The high standard of the works presented as a result of the rigorous selection by the Committee, the opening of an impressive section dedicated to photography, and the original design and conviviality of the exhibition areas have all contributed to the rave reviews the event has received

The majority of the more than 50 exhibitors, who came from Austria, Belgium, Korea, France, Japan, Russia, and the Ukraine as well as Switzerland, have expressed a high level of satisfaction with the contacts and the sales that they made.

This result was a deserving reward for the Committee who had worked for two years to achieve this success. But they will not rest on these laurels – exciting projects are already being studied for the 2011 edition.

William Ropp

Photographe né en 1960 à Nancy, William Ropp parcourt le monde pour présenter un travail continu sur le corps, dans tous ses états. Ses clichés peuvent déranger ou séduire, il avoue ne pas chercher à provoquer quelque sentiment : la photographie se ressent, elle ne s’explique pas. William Ropp, c’est un travail de finesse, jouant en permanence entre la sérénité des lieux et des postures, et un jeu de lumières et de décalages qui rend le cliché difficile à interpréter. Chaque image a son histoire certes, mais surtout, chaque image de William Ropp parle à sa manière au spectateur de son travail, en le mettant face à sa propre réalité.		William Ropp, the photographer from Nancy born in 1960, has travelled the world presenting his work that concentrates on the human body in all its states. His photos can either upset or seduce you. He admits that he does not seek to provoke any particular sentiment with his work: photography is something that is felt and does not need to be explained. William Ropp’s work shows his finesse, continuously playing between the serenity of the scene with different postures, and the play of light and movement which makes any meaning difficult to interpret. Each image has a certain history, but above all each photo by William Ropp speaks to the observer in the manner of his work, putting forward his own particular view of reality.

« Une séance avec Ropp se révèle d’un type assez spécial. Vous êtes dans la nuit. Il vous faut rester totalement immobile durant quelques minutes. L’artiste ne dispose pas d’une batterie de projecteurs. Il se contente d’une lampe de poche, vous « sculptant » peu à peu. Le résultat garde forcément quelque chose d’aléatoire. Pris plusieurs fois de suite, vous serez forcément toujours un peu différent.»		« A photo session with Ropp reveals a very special character. You are in the darkness of night. You must remain totally still for several minutes. The artist does not use a battery of lights. He merely uses a pocket torch to « sculpt » you little by little. The results present something totally unpredictable. Taken several times in succession, it always produces something a bit different. »

Passionnés par les Arts et par l'Humain, la maîtresse des lieux et son bras droit, Christophe Chevillard, mêlent savamment tous les ingrédients nécessaires à l'élaboration de multiples événements publics et privés. Les artistes locaux et internationaux sont présentés dans la galerie de Lutry, bourg pittoresque de Lavaux (Patrimoine de l'UNESCO) et bientôt dans leur nouvel espace à Forel (Lavaux) où une ancienne ferme vaudoise est en cours de restauration pour permettre plus d'espace tant pour les œuvres que pour recevoir leurs clients. JEAN-PIERRE SERGENT Depuis l'année 2000 Jean-Pierre Sergent, artiste peintre né à Morteau (France), vivant et travaillant entre Besançon et New York, continue sa série "Mayan Diary". Technique de sérigraphie sur Plexiglas utilisant la récupération, l'appropriation et l'accumulation iconographique. Ses installations murales monumentales modulables sont exposées dans de nombreux espaces culturels et galeries d'Europe et des Etats Unis. Les principaux thèmes de ces "fusion paintings" sont largement inspirés des cultures tribales, du chamanisme, des Mangas, du Kundalini, de l'épopée mystique, des cycles de vie et du "momentum" cosmique. Le langage pictural se présente comme un lieu de rencontre iconographique d'éléments transtemporels et transculturels d'archétypes puisés dans l'inconscient et l'imaginaire collectifs. L'artiste met en abîme les confrontations, la dualité et les harmonies entre les figurations du corps : Monde présent, matériel et tangible, images pornographiques, sexualité; et les représentations des mondes spirituels : Mondes cosmogoniques intemporels, patterns vibratoires répétitifs des transes rituelles, matière génétique universelle, mémoires du rêve et du temps profond, structures socioculturelles et généalogiques tribales.		Passionate by the arts and the human, the mistress of places and his right arm, Christophe Chevillard, mix skilfully all the ingredients necessary to the development of multiple public and private events. Local and international artists are presented in the picturesque village of Lutry, Gallery of Lavaux (UNESCO heritage) and soon into their new space in Forel (Lavaux) where a former vaudoise farm is being recovery to allow more space both for works and to accept their customers. JEAN-PIERRE SERGENT French, Swiss and American painter, Jean-Pierre Sergent divides his time between New York City and Besançon. His work is exhibited in Europe as well as in Canada and the USA. Sergent engages himself in themes of eroticism, shamanism, the cosmology of the afterlife and chaos. The artist uses life's forces to wreck individual and collective mind/body and social/cultural forms of alienation. His works dig deeply into the collective super-conscious and various pre-industrial mythologies in order to honor the Man/Nature/Culture/Universe interconnection. He also depicts "wholeness areas" human-beings can reach through spirituality or sexual intimacy. Since 2000 he is pursuing his work-in-progress with the "Mayan Diary" series begun in NYC, a palimpsest silkscreen on Plexiglas art technic using images appropriation, accumulation, entanglement and layering.

JO-VANNI Révélateur de sens et d'émotions, Jo-vanni ne se laisse pas enfermer dans un discours théorique. Il vit, il peint, il crée sans artifice, à la force de ses tripes. Exacerbée, sa sensibilité le rapproche de l'essentiel: de ces émotions que beaucoup ne perçoivent plus, de ces interrogations que d'autres ne soulèvent plus, de ces instants magiques que nombreux n'apprécient plus. Son directeur, François Chabanian, collectionneur passionné et marchand d’art depuis plus de trente ans, a également ouvert en 2009 deux nouvelles galeries : Bel-Air Fine Art Crans-Montana et la Galerie BafaFOTO Genève, spécialisée dans la photographie contemporaine. Quant à la Galerie des Lices de Saint-Tropez dirigée par son fils Grégory, elle fête cette année ses cinq ans et reste le plus grand espace d'art contemporain de la presque île.		It is run by François Chabanian, an avid art collector and dealer, who has more than thirty years of experience in the fine arts world. In 2009, Mr. Chabanian opened two new galleries: the Bel-Air Fine Art in Crans-Montana, nestled in the Swiss Alps, and BafaFoto in Geneva’s Quartier des Bains, specializing in contemporary photography. Galerie des Lices is managed by Mr. Chabanian’s son, Grégory, and is the largest space dedicated to contemporary art in Saint-Tropez. This year, Galerie des Lices celebrates its fifth year anniversary.

Bafa Foto a ouvert ses portes en mai 2009 dans le Quartier des Bains, le quartier d'art contemporain à Genève. Ouvert par François Chabanian et Katia Arnth-Jensen, Bafa Foto est la galerie soeur de la Galerie Bel-Air Fine Art, ouvert en 2004 à la rue de la Corraterie.		Bafa Foto opened its doors in May 2009 in the contemporary art centre of Geneva, Quartier des Bains. Launched by François Chabanian and Katia Arnth-Jensen, it is a sister gallery to the already established Bel-Air Fine Art.

Galerie Bafa Foto expose un grand nombre de jeunes photographes internationaux, ainsi que des artistes de grand renommée encouragés à interagir avec le public et les collectionneurs à travers les dialogues, interviews et performances. La galerie, entretient des relations très privilégiées et amicales avec ses artistes. Elle collabore étroitement avec eux, suit leur progression au cours des années et leur offre une exposition permanente afin d’être vu par le plus grand nombre. La Galerie I.D propose aussi des estampes originales d’artistes américains et anglais mondialement confirmés tels que Tom Wesselmann, Alex Katz, Robert Indiana ou Julian Opie pour n’en citer que quelques uns. FRANCOIS BOISROND Peindre ce que tout le monde voit et que personne ne regarde, voilà le credo de François Boisrond, peintre emblématique de la Figuration Libre, mouvement français des années quatre-vingt. Aujourd’hui il pose son chevalet dans le monde de l’art actuel. Se plaçant ainsi tout droit dans la lignée d’une tradition oubliée, celle de Hubert Robert, de Léopold Boilly, de Honoré Daumier, des artistes qui captaient l’atmosphère et les réactions du public dans les salons parisiens du XIXème siècle. "J’ai envie de développer quelque chose de nouveau, de peindre des choses qui ne l’avaient jamais été.... un accrochage dans un musée ou une installation vidéo, par exemple." Brosser l’art contemporain, c’est faire une peinture de genre, c’est aussi proposer une réflexion décalée par rapport à une avant-garde qui a proclamé un peu trop vite la mort de la peinture.		She works in close collaboration with them, follows their progress through the years and offers them permanent exposure in order to be seen by a large public. The gallery offers as well prints, of worldwide famous American and English artists such as Tom Wesselmann, Robert Indiana, Alex Katz, or Julian Opie to name a few. FRANÇOIS BOISROND François Boisrond’s credo is to paint what everybody sees but nobody looks at. As a painter, Boisrond is emblematic of the Free Figuration movement in France in the 1980s. Today Boisrond places his easel in the midst of the current art world. In doing so, he places himself in a direct line of descent from the forgotten tradition of Boilly and Daumier, artists who captured the atmosphere and the public’s reaction in the Parisian salons of nineteenth century. “I want to develop something new, I want to paint things which have never been painted before... a set up of a museum exhibition or a video installation for example.” Depicting contemporary art is a way of making genre painting and is also a way of offering a vision that is out of step with an avant-garde that has been a little too quick to herald the end of painting.

ERIC LIOT Le nouveau venu des artistes "Pop" de la galerie I.D, Eric Liot est tout à la fois peintre, sculpteur, assembleur, collagiste. Il se consacré à toutes les disciplines de la création pour proposer des œuvres aux inspirations Pop Art qui font référence dans le milieu artistique français. Il mêle différents procédés et différentes matières pour créer des pièces uniques tant d’un point de vue esthétique que technique. L’artiste porte un regard incisif sur la société de consommation en mettant en scène notre addiction aux signes ou se réappropriant, avec une certaine ironie, les figures mythiques qui façonnent notre imaginaire, des super-héros à Cendrillon en passant par Gandhi. Eric Liot se nourrit de tout ce qui l’entoure : histoire de l’art, publicités, films ou même imprimés qu’il ramène de ses voyages, chaque détail du quotidien devient pour lui un prétexte à la création nous offrant ainsi des puzzles de vie qui s’inspirent du familier pour nous emporter vers un univers d’imaginaire...		ERIC LIOT Last to join the “Pop” artists at Galerie I.D, Eric Liot is in succession, a painter, a sculptor, an assembler and a collagist. He consecrated himself to all branches of creation in order to be able to propose today's works, which are inspired by Pop art and which are a reference point within French art circles. He blends different procedures and materials to create unique pieces from both an aesthetic and technical point of view. Playful and critical at the same time, the artist takes an incisive look at this society of consumption, staging our addiction to signs or ironically reclaiming the mythical figures that shape our imagination, from super-heroes to Cinderella even passing through Gandhi. Eric Liot feeds on everything that surrounds him : art history, advertising, films or even prints that he brings back from his travels, each detail of daily life becomes a pretext for him to create, thus offering us life puzzles that are inspired by what is familiar, only to lead us towards an imaginary universe...

MICHAEL KALISH Ce jeune artiste américain a trouvé sa place parmi les nouveaux artistes de la galerie I.D. par l’originalité de son travail et son étonnante technique. Michael est un sculpteur qui travaille exclusivement la carrosserie de voiture et les plaques d’immatriculations. Ses sujets favoris sont les icônes et les symboles de la culture populaire américaine. "La plaque minéralogique est directement associée à l’une des plus grandes histoire d’amour de la société américaine des années cinquante, l’automobile. A ce titre, je les considère comme des icônes populaires à part entière..." Il découpe les contours sombres de ses sujets dans les plaques retournées créant ainsi un effet optique intense accentué par la dureté de la matière première. Ailleurs, il chauffe, tord et découpe la carrosserie bosselée, rouillée et oxydée des vieilles voitures américaines afin de créer des oeuvres en volume parfois pour des réalisations inattendues telles que des roses géantes, accentuant ainsi l’opposition entre la matière et le sujet.		MICHAEL KALISH This young American artist was chosen by Galerie I.D because of the novelty of his work and its surprising technique. Michael is a sculptor who works exclusively with auto parts and license plates. Kalish major themes are icon of the American popular culture. "The license plate is a widely acknowledged object associated with one of America’s greatest love affair, the automobile. As such I see it as a popular icon in its own right..." He cuts the dark lines of his subject in the license plates to create intense optical patterns which is increased by the solidity of the metal line. Recently he has created a spectacular series of gigantic roses rising out the maelstrom of twisted and rusted steel of old classical American cars, creating an unexpected opposition between the subject and the medium.

Si les premiers dessins d’humour datent de 1957, les publications suivent très vite dès 1961 : Arts, Hara-Kiri, Libération, Stratégies et, encore, Siné hebdo. Dix albums sont publiés dont le volume des Dessins politiques 1968-1974. Soulas est primé à Montréal en 1969, reçoit le prix de l’Humour Noir en 1974 et le prix de l’Humour Vache en 1999. Mais la caricature politique et le dessin de presse fanent au rythme de l’actualité qui passe. Alors, il prend les brosses, triture les couleurs et les formes, peint avec ferveur, détournant les maîtres : hommages et regard critique. Sait-il que son art était déjà là dans ses premiers dessins ?		His first humorous drawings were produced in 1957, and his publications followed quickly from 1961, including: Arts, Hara-Kin, Liberation, Strategies, and Sine hebdo. Ten albums were published including the volume Des Dessins Politiques 1968-1974. Soulas received an award in Montreal in 1969, was presented with the Prix de l’Humour Noir in 1974 and the Prix de l’Humour Vache in 1999. However, political caricatures and drawings in the press sometimes pale against the reality of events. Therefore he takes his brushes, manipulates his colours and forms, paints with great fervour as he distracts with his homage and a critical point of view. Did he realise his art was already apparent in his first drawings?

Yann Arthus-Bertrand expose chez Krisal : *un hymne à nos amis les bêtes* L’entreprise de ce projet est chère au cœur de la galerie Krisal. En effet, femme de conviction, Christine Ventouras admire l’homme de terrain qu’est Yann Arthus-Bertrand et partage son discours lié au développement durable. La cohérence de ses discours et de son art est, en cela, primordiale. L’homme à travers ses photographies donne à réfléchir sur le devenir de la planète. La galerie Krisal recherche dans chacun des artistes qu’elle expose un rapport passionnel avec l’art. L’œuvre de Yann Arthus-Bertrand est en parfaite corrélation avec la ligne conductrice de la galerie d’art. Avec Jan Saudek – dont il est un grand ami malgré leur art diamétralement opposé – Yann Arthus-Bertrand fait parti des plus grands artistes que la galerie expose. Mais à l’image de Jan Saudek, la portée médiatique de Yann Arthus-Bertrand s’oppose à l’humilité dont fait preuve l’homme. Sandrine and Riccardo Barilla Issus du milieu de la finance, nul ne connaît mieux la valeur d’investissement d’une oeuvre d’art et parfois sa transformation en un simple objet de spéculation. La photographie occupe une place prépondérante dans le travail des Barilla, toutefois, dans cette série exposée à la galerie, elle est vectrice de sens. La photographie est ici à la fois la manifestation de l’instant et de la durée car elle fige l’éphémère qui paradoxalement s’inscrira dans le temps. Il en va de même lorsqu’une oeuvre d’art est livrée au marché. Cette dernière peut acquérir une valeur assujettie à un engouement, donc fugace, alors que sa valeur intrinsèque, culturelle entre autres, peut, elle, s’inscrire dans la continuité. Le travail des Barilla est certainement perturbant pour le spectateur puisque à certains égards il se nourrit au sein de la mère qu’il rejette. Pourtant, quoi de plus parlant et de plus efficace, que de se servir de certains codes avec distance et ironie pour débusquer ainsi l’effet de mode, la banalité et le convenu. They are better placed than anyone else to appreciate the investment value of a work of art and sometimes its transformation to a simple object of speculation. Photography occupies a central place in the Barilla world, however, this series exposed at Krisal Gallery, is a vector of meaning. Their pictures simultaneously show the instant and its duration because they solidify the instant, which paradoxically is part of time. The same applies when a work of art is delivered to the market. The latter can acquire a subjugated value with passion, therefore fleeting, whereas its value, rather its cultural value, can fall under continuity. The work of Barilla is certainly disturbing to the spectator since at certain moment it bites the hand that feeds it. Miles Davis a laissé derrière lui quelques centaines de peintures et de dessins, étonnant par la même occasion une grande partie de ses fans musicaux. Dans les dix dernières années de sa vie, il a pourtant consacré une grande partie de son temps à la peinture. Après une première crise d’apoplexie, il décida de se consacrer plus activement à ce qui n’était alors qu’une inclination certaine. Les tableaux de Miles Davis sont le reflet de ses pensées et de ses sentiments. Ses tableaux sont difficilement appréhendables au premier regard. Il provoque le spectateur à découvrir sans cesse quelque chose de nouveau. A l’inverse de sa formation musicale, Miles Davis s’est toujours refusé d’approcher la peinture autrement qu’en tant qu’autodidacte. De surcroît, il n’a jamais peint dans l’espoir de vendre ses oeuvres. La vue de ses tableaux lui est trop vitale. C’est pourquoi il ne consentit que très tardivement à ouvrir ses oeuvres au domaine public. Imaginaid Galerie veut devenir un vecteur unique d’opportunités pour des talents émergents ou plus confirmés, de Suisse ou d’ailleurs. Elle a souhaité en cela s’associer avec mc2, un duo d’agents artistiques composé de Christiane Nill Ferro et Maxime Pegatoquet. Une collaboration fructueuse qui, au-delà de faciliter la découverte de nouveaux talents, offre aux artistes des conditions optimales pour poursuivre leurs travaux et développer leur notoriété.		The photographers and other creators who exhibit there very often combine their documentary observations and creations in plastic with artistic expression to present works that are aesthetically powerful but also stimulate interpretational and critical discussions. Imaginaid Gallery’s goal is to become a provider of unique opportunities for emerging as well as established talents, from Switzerland and other countries. It proposes to associate with mc2, a pair of artistic agents, Christiane Nill Ferro and Maxime Pegatoquet. La galerie a deux objectifs principaux : premièrement de présenter et promouvoir les travaux d’artistes internationaux tant établis qu’émergents. Deuxièmement d’assurer l’information et les conseils à des collectionneurs nouveaux et réguliers. Notre engagement avec les artistes est basé sur le long terme afin de les aider à développer et solidifier leur carrière. Notre programme est basé sur une stratégie personnalisée et inclut : l’organisation d’événements et expositions, la diffusion et la promotion des projets tant interne qu’externe au travers de divers medias, la participation à des foires internationales et de nouvelles propositions régulières à tous nos contacts. Chaque exposition fait l’objet d’un catalogue que nous distribuons aux musées, curateurs, critiques d’art, collectionneurs et clients.		The gallery has two main objectives. First to present and promote the work of international artists, both established and emerging. Second to provide information and advice to new and seasoned collectors. Our platform is based on commitment and long-term relationship with our artists, to support and enable a solid and steady development of their career. Our program is based on an individualized strategy for each artist where we include: the organization of events and exhibitions, diffusion and promotion through different media of their projects within and outside the Gallery, participation in international art fairs and regular update on new proposals to all our contacts. La galerie Tasneem est aussi un des membres fondateurs de La Fuente Fondation, une organisation à but non lucratif, basée à Londres. Tasneem Gallery is also one of the founding members of La Fuente Foundation, a not for profit organization registered in London. La Galerie Leda Fletcher à artbygenève

La Galerie a toujours eu comme but de présenter au large public une réalité artistique chinoise qui existait déjà depuis longtemps, mais que l’Occident tardait à connaître.

Depuis, la Galerie a présenté environ 70 expositions d’artistes chinois de Chine Continentale mais aussi de Taiwan, Hong Kong, la Diaspora, tous ceux qui sont représentatifs de leur culture en évolution.

Tableaux à l’huile, à l’encre de Chine sur papier chinois, abstraits, figuratifs, photos, la Galerie a cherché à présenter un kaléidoscope des différents artistes et de leur moyen technique d’expression.

Après dix ans dans le domaine, Leda Fletcher pense se consacrer à l’avenir à la promotion d’artistes chinois contemporains utilisant le papier, tout en continuant à assister ses clients avec ses conseils.

The main purpose of the Gallery has always been to introduce to the large public an artistic Chinese reality which had already been existing in China since many years, but of which the West seemed not to take notice.

Since the opening the Gallery has hosted about 70 exhibitions of Chinese artists coming from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong-Kong and of the Diaspora, who are representative of their culture.

Painting in oil, Chinese ink on Chinese paper, either abstract or figurative, photos, the Gallery has tried to give a kaleidoscope of different artists and their different technical way of expression.

After ten years of activity Leda Fletcher is considering concentrating for the future only in the promotion of contemporary artists using paper and to assist clients with her suggestions on this matter.

Si les techniques numériques accélèrent la disparition de ce savoir-faire, certains artistes écrivent encore en ombre et lumière. La photographie dépasse alors la représentation du sujet. Il y est transcendé par le regard du photographe, le long processus de développement et la permanence des sels d’argents. Hiroshi Watanabe est de ceux qui savent que cette magie, voire alchimie, contribue à l’expression de l’artiste.		If digital techniques are accelerating the disappearance of human know-how, some artists will continue to create with shadow and light. Photography can go well beyond the mere representation of a subject. It is transcended by the perspective of the photographer, the long processes of development and the permanence of its silver crystals. Hiroshi Watanabe is one who possesses this magic even the alchemy that can be contributed by an artist’s expression.

Dans son geste, une dimension sacrée s’impose à lui naturellement. Il tient son boitier 6x6 à deux mains placées au niveau de l’abdomen. Ainsi, il s’incline devant le sujet, pour composer le cadre sur le verre dépoli de l’appareil. Une attitude de révérence et d’intériorité qui conduit à la poésie et nous verse dans l’essentiel. Nous pourrions surprendre Hiroshi Watanabe dans le laboratoire et ne serions pas étonnés de pénétrer dans un lieu de mystère. Celui de la chambre noire qui verra naître les images sur un somptueux papier, surface sensible où les sels d’argent se déclineront en toutes gammes de blanc, de gris et de noir. Et le sujet ? Infiniment respecté dans une empathie sincère, que ce soit pour les gens, les bêtes ou les objets. Chacun semble vous regarder. Ce n’est plus la photographie observée, c’est elle qui capte votre regard. Olivier Delhoume		Through his creativity we see a special dimension that seems to come to him naturally. With both hands he holds his 6x6 format camera at stomach level. In addition, he leans before the subject to compose the frame on the frosted lens of the camera. With a reverential and internalising attitude towards his subject, he moves it into the poetic and guides us to its essentials. We can imagine Hiroshi Watanabe in the laboratory and not be surprised to find him creating real magic. It is in the darkroom that he creates his images on a sumptuous paper with a sensitive surface where the silver crystals can produce all levels and shades of grey in between black and white. His subjects are infinitely respected with a sincere empathy that he develops for them, be they people, animals, or objects. Each one seems to be looking at us. La galerie expose un éclectisme d'artistes contemporains du monde entier. Bien que chaque œuvre exposée soit issue de cultures, techniques et moyens d'expression différents, elles ont en commun une perspective moderne qui leur est unique. Installée depuis 2009, la galerie a déjà eu plusieurs vernissages d’œuvres d’art contemporain chinois et d’art contemporain New Yorkais. Dû à ce mélange d'œuvres, la galerie possède une collection d'art unique dans la région.		The gallery exhibits an eclectic variety of contemporary artists from around the world. Although the cultures, techniques and expressive qualities are different, all of the artwork has a unique modern perspective. Since the opening in 2009, the gallery had several vernissages focusing on contemporary Chinese artists as well as contemporary New York based artists. As a result of this mixture of works, the gallery's collection of art is unique for the region.

Dubner Moderne a été fondée par Vernon Dubner, diplômé de l'Aiglon College et de l'Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne. La galerie expose plusieurs artistes, bien établis ou émergents, qui se trouvent dans les collections des musées et des collectionneurs, et une sélection qui consiste d’estampes en éditions limitées, de dessins, d’aquarelles et d’huiles. La galerie se fait toujours un plaisir de donner des conseils à des clients qui veulent parfaire leur collection ainsi qu’à des collectionneurs souhaitant débuter dans le domaine. Lors du salon artbygenève 2010 qui a lieu du 28 avril au 2 mai à Palexpo, Dubner Moderne exposera "Gold" 2001 par Richard Tuttle qui est une suite de 5 aquatintes colorées. A l'exposition il y aura aussi : Mahmoud Hamadani, un iranien né à New York, qui a trouvé l'inspiration dans un poème par Gu Cheng pour ses tableaux "Traces". Edward Mapplethorpe, le photographe New Yorkais, a créé des "lith prints", sans appareil photographique, dans une chambre noire avec des crins de chevaux. Li Jin, l'artiste chinois qui utilise des encres traditionnelles Chinoises, apporte son amour de la vie à un vieux médium pour la réalisation de ses tableaux modernes à l'encre avec son humour et sagesse. Jiang Huan, l'artiste réaliste chinois qui est connu pour être un maître du réalisme. Isca Greenfield Sanders, citée par Wired News comme une "hot digital artist", utilise des vieilles photographies avec la manipulation digitale, avant de les traduire dans ses aquarelles et huiles. Choong-Sup Lim est un artiste coréen qui vit à New York et est connu aux États-Unis et en Asie pour ses installations et œuvres "mixed media" qui explorent la relation entre ses expériences de l'environnement urbain et naturel. Dubner Moderne a eu le plaisir d'avoir publié la première estampe d'édition limitée de M. Lim. Isca Greenfield Sanders, “is a hot digital artist,” (Wired News, 2002) who digitally manipulates old photographs and translates them into watercolors and oil paintings. Choong-Sup Lim is a New York based Korean artist, who is known in the US and Asia for his installations and mixed media art that are a personal reflection of his journey between nature and culture. Making one’s work visible is not an easy feat but at artbygenève it is possible to make it seen by gallerists, journalists, collectors and visitors who just happen to be there for the show.

artbygenève, du 28 avril au 2 mai 2010, Genève, Suisse. Existant depuis bientôt 200 ans, la photographie a toujours intrigué, étonné, interpellé voire choqué. La photographie a servi de témoignage historique, de déclaration contemporaine et d’expression artistique. Les nouvelles technologies de ces 20 dernières années ont permis un développement fulgurant dans ce domaine et ont bousculé les règles. artbygenève veut devenir une plateforme qualitative mettant en avant cette forme d’art à la fois ancienne et contemporaine, et en perpétuelle évolution. C’est pourquoi un espace dédié à la photographie sera aménagé, s’adressant notamment aux 100'000 visiteurs du Salon du livre et de la presse, ayant lieu en parallèle. En effet, chaque année au Salon du Livre, une exposition de photographies de presse est organisée et attire de nombreux passionnés du 8e art ! Invented about 200 years ago, photography has always intrigued, surprised, appealed and even shocked. Photography has been used as historical testimony, contemporary declaration and artistic expression. New technologies have enabled an incredible development in this field, and are at the service of creativity and sensitivity of artists. artbygenève aims at becoming a qualitative platform highlighting this form of art, which is at the same time traditional and contemporary, and in constant evolution. Therefore we will dedicate a special area to photography. This area will also be accessible to the 100’000 visitors of the International Book and Press Fair, which takes place at the same time as artbygenève. Each year indeed, the Book Fair presents a press photography exhibition, which attracts many passionate of the 8th art! Come and join us in our welcoming setting, favorable to meetings, around a corner or by our comfy Café des Arts!

La mission d’artbygenève est de présenter les acteurs de l’art d’aujourd’hui dans une ambiance décontractée et chaleureuse. Des exposants du monde entier viennent y rencontrer des passionnés d’art et des collectionneurs en plein cœur de l’Europe. L’édition 2009 a attiré plus de 15 000 visiteurs et nous les attendons plus nombreux encore cette année.		The mission of artbygenève is to exhibit today’s art in a relaxed and congenial atmosphere. Exhibitors from all over the world meet art lovers and collectors in the heart of Europe. Last year’s edition drew an audience in excess of 15 000 visitors. In 2010 we are expecting a significant increase.

artbygenève: nouvelle identité pour la foire internationale dart de Genève à Palexpo

Au printemps 2009, le nouveau Comité avait relevé son défi : la nouvelle formule d’aménagement comme de sélection des exposants avait soulevé l’enthousiasme général à tous les niveaux et bien au-delà des frontières. Les exposants se sont montrés satisfaits d’une manière générale. Une nouvelle appellation a été choisie pour illustrer cette évolution : artbygenève. Tout en conservant la même ligne graphique qu’europ’art’09, créée par l’Atelier Pfund, cette nouvelle identité confirme l’ouverture déjà effective de l’événement bien au-delà des frontières européennes (Asie, Amérique Latine et Afrique notamment). En associant les termes de art et genève, elle indique clairement d’une part le thème et d’autre part le lieu, dont la renommée internationale et le rayonnement culturel sont une signature (« by ») universellement connue. La vocation de artbygenève est de faire découvrir dans une ambiance conviviale des talents émergents et de présenter des artistes confirmés sur le plan international. Ouverte au grand public, cette foire s’adresse aux collectionneurs et aux professionnels du monde de l’art et entend favoriser les rencontres et les échanges internationaux à Genève. Elle réunit en priorité des galeries pour la qualité de leur sélection d’œuvres ainsi que des galeries qui identifient les talents de demain et assurent leur promotion dans un esprit de soutien à l’art d’aujourd’hui. Enfin, artbygenève entend également assurer une information particulière aux visiteurs qui désirent découvrir les différentes tendances et disciplines présentes dans ses stands. artbygenève aura lieu du 28 avril au 2 mai 2010 à Palexpo.		Last spring, the new Committee had great success at meeting its challenge: the new layout and the selection of the exhibitors had been enthusiastically welcomed both by the public and art professionals. The exhibitors were also generally satisfied. A new appellation has been chosen in order to illustrate this evolution: artbygenève. While retaining the same visual identity as europ’art’09, designed by Atelier Pfund, the new name confirms the already effective opening of the event far beyond the European borders (especially Asia, Latin America and Africa). Combining the words art and Genève clearly indicates both the theme and location; location whose international fame and cultural radiance are a universally renowned signature (“by”). artbygenève aims to provide a venue to discover emerging talents as well as internationally recognized artists in an informal ambiance. Open to the public, the fair is designed for collectors and current creation professionals and aspires to encourage meetings and international exchanges in Geneva. It first and foremost gathers galleries based on the quality of their artwork selection, and galleries identifying the talents of tomorrow while insuring their promotion in a spirit of support for today’s art. Last but not least, artbygenève also aims to provide particular information to visitors willing to learn about the various tendencies and disciplines represented, and acquire artworks. artbygenève will take place from 28^th April to 2^nd May 2010 at Palexpo

Le Comité, présidé par Roger Pfund, et le directeur artistique Christoph Bollmann avaient notamment pour objectifs d’améliorer l’urbanisme et l’aménagement du salon, d’augmenter la qualité des exposants par la sélection et de restaurer la confiance des parties prenantes locales. Quelque 60% des exposants ayant répondu ont qualifié la nouvelle conception de « très bien » et 20% de « bien », alors que les trois quarts ont jugé la qualité et la quantité des visiteurs de satisfaisant à très bien. Les déclarations d’intention de revenir exposer l’an prochain ont triplé par rapport à 2008. Enfin, les prestations offertes par les services de Palexpo et ses fournisseurs ont été largement appréciées.		The main objectives of the Committee, which is chaired by Roger Pfund, and the artistic director Christoph Bollmann, were to improve the planning and layout of the exhibition, to enhance exhibitor quality through selection and to restore the local stakeholders’ confidence. About 60% of the exhibitors who replied described the new concept as "very good" and 20% as "good", while three-quarters of them rated the quality and quantity of visitors as satisfactory to very good. The declarations of intent to come back and exhibit next year tripled compared with 2008. Finally, the services offered by Palexpo's departments and its suppliers were greatly appreciated.
